About the Show
What if healing was not something you watched but something you entered?
In Fields Where We Bloom is an immersive solo performance and ritual journey that transforms Black women’s histories, memories, and inner landscapes into a living botanical ceremony of poetry, scent, movement, and sound. Beginning at an ancestral altar, the work unfolds as an invocation calling in lineage, memory, and spirit.
Through a guided sensory journey across seven botanicals, the performance traces a path from survival to wholeness: from the raw earth of cotton fields and their embodied histories, to magnolia’s dual legacy of beauty and terror, to jasmine’s quiet rebellion, lavender’s call to rest, honey’s sweetness as birthright, the layered meanings of the rose, and finally the integration of gardenia and neroli as divine wholeness.
Rooted in Veronique MacRae’s personal reconnection to the earth during the COVID-19 pandemic, the piece bridges ancestral knowledge, herbal wisdom, and embodied performance.
Drawing from her poetry collection In a Field Full of Lavender Trees, it weaves historical memory with spiritual inquiry and lived experience. Audience members are invited into a guided participatory experience, engaging scent, rhythm, reflection, and voice. Each participant receives a handcrafted fragrance box and is led through moments of breath, journaling, sound-making, and collective presence transforming the audience into active witnesses and co-participants in the ritual. Blurring the boundaries between theatre, ceremony, and communal healing practice, In Fields Where We Bloom asks What do we carry from those who came before us and what does it mean to finally bloom beyond survival?
